Eight years is both an eternity and no time at all. Looking back to when we began What The Fur as an idea in 2009, and then bringing it to life in 2010, who would have guessed that we would have made it this far? All of the things we’ve accomplished together, all of the friends we’ve made, family we forged, and memories that will never be replaced or forgotten.

So it is with a heavy heart that I must announce that after we close the doors on What The Fur 2017, after we tear down the stage and give everyone hugs, there will no longer be any future What The Fur conventions.

2017 will be the final year for What The Fur.

We have wrestled long and hard with this, but in the end, this is the best decision for several reasons. I will not go into details on them here, but no single thing has made us make this call. This is the culmination of several factors that, when taken together, point to the end of the convention.

Indeed, this is sad news for many people. What The Fur has been the beginning of many wonderful things. We’ve been home to so many of you once a year that once the convention is over it will feel weird not seeing all of your faces every summer.

But despite the sorrow of knowing that this will be the last What The Fur, rest assured that this year will be the biggest and best year of the convention. Instead of being sad, I would like us to celebrate everything that has been, and to have an amazing time. I invite everyone to come to Montreal at the end of July to have fun, to meet friends, and to be with people that share in the common interests that bring us all together. What The Fur 2017 is going all out on everything that we can to make it the best experience we can offer, so that when it is all over, we’ll be able to look back and smile.

I also want to say thank you. I want to thank all of those who, over the years, worked so hard to make this convention happen. I want thank the hotels we’ve been at for their hospitality. But most, I want to thank all of you who have attended What The Fur. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without all of you.

Let's make this last What The Fur a party to remember!

With all of my best regards, and looking forward to seeing all of you in July,

Chris "Feli” Pilgrim
